Memo from the State Department: You Need a Current Passport to Go to Mexico

Or at least proof you have applied to renew your passport. Which you can't get until 7-10 days after you apply. Which is really inconvenient when you discover this 3 days before you need to leave for Mexico. So you might have to fly to Colorado, which is the only passport office accepting appointments. Or maybe, if you're lucky, you can pay someone a whole bunch of money to handle it for you. But you won't know until morning how it's going to work out.

Soooo?? It all turned out okay, right? Did the A-Rush folks help out? Don't worry...in three days, you'll be drinking mojitos and not worrying about that extra $200 you spent to expedite things. And I know that you having a passport to go to Mexico is keeping our country safe. Sheeesh, George.

So far, so good. I was at the A Rush office right as they opened. They did all the documents and sent them to Chicago. They think it will work out, but we won't know for sure until the new passport arrives on a flight tomorrow night. Fingers crossed. And that's $600, not $200, because I needed same day service. Stupid July 4th holiday.
