Princess Persuasion
Lu knows how much I dislike the princess thing. Last night, she wanted me to read her a Disney princess book, and she tried to persuade me by explaining, "Well, they aren't princesses, they are just really pretty. With pretty dresses on. And crowns. But look, they have horses, Mom, and I know how much you like horses." I held firm. I really don't like horses all that much either.

Hmmm...I'm on the hunt for a book about a princess and a baby goat. How will you resist that one?!?
There are moments when I see myself in Lu (based on stories from my parents) and I'm afraid that vehemently fighting such fascinations at this age may only beget a stronger insistence on them. Let her have those damn princess "things" for a bit and the want may pass quite quickly. Fight them and she may want them all the more and for longer!
For instance, I insisted on wearing nothing but the frilliest, most ridiculous dresses to preschool for the longest time. My mom fought me at first but decided it wasn't worth fighting over at some point. After that year, and through many early elementary years, I refused to wear ANYTHING but jeans and pants. NO DRESSES! Sometimes it's just the trying on of a "part" that is fascinating. Fear not -- I see no signs that Lu is a helpless princess at heart. :D
